Does my heat pump need cleaning if I just got it through MassSave or New Hampshire Saves?+

Not right away — but within the first year of operation yes. Even new systems begin accumulating dust and debris quickly, especially in humid New England conditions. We recommend your first deep clean 12 months after installation to establish a baseline and stay ahead of buildup.

How is a heat pump deep clean different from regular maintenance?+

Regular maintenance covers filter cleaning and basic inspections. A deep clean goes much further — we fully disassemble the indoor unit and clean the evaporator coils, blower wheel, drain pan, and condensate lines. These are the components where mold and bacteria actually grow, and a standard maintenance visit never reaches them.

How much does heat pump cleaning cost?+

Our deep cleaning service starts at $250 for a standard system with one indoor and one outdoor unit. Each additional indoor or outdoor unit is $85. There are no hidden fees — you know the price before we show up.

Why does my heat pump smell musty when it switches to heat mode?+

That musty smell is mold and bacteria that has built up on the internal components being blown into your living space. It's especially noticeable when switching to heat mode because the warm air activates and spreads the odor. A deep clean eliminates the source completely — most customers notice the difference immediately.

How often should I have my heat pump deep cleaned?+

For most homes, once a year is the right call. If you have pets, allergies, or live in a coastal area like Cape Cod, every 6 to 8 months is better. New Hampshire and Massachusetts homes that run their heat pump year-round for both heating and cooling should stick to annual cleanings at minimum.
